I was born in the Soviet Union in 1954. I am now a British citizen living in London, United Kingdom.
My love of sculpture started in early childhood. One of my earliest memories is of me, 5-years old, sitting at home at the kitchen table happily making animal figures out of candle wax. My passion for sculpture continued throughout primary and secondary school working with various materials.
I studied sculpture as well as painting and drawing for 2 years at a highly regarded artist studio in Moscow. I then entered the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute where I studied sculpture for 3 years.
The Surikov Institute is renowned as one of the leading centers of higher art education in Russia. Its Faculty of Sculpture promotes the best traditions of the realistic school in art which is vitally important for portrait sculpture.
After my formal art education, I worked for many years as an art teacher and as a successful designer and producer of ceramic jewelry.
I immigrated to London in 1994 and, for many enjoyable years, worked as a successful portrait artist using paper and canvas with dry-brush, oil, chalk, and pencil. Over the years I have enjoyed drawing an infinite variety of portraits of people from around the world.
I have now returned to my first love, portrait sculpture, and I now happily make my living in the extra dimension with terracotta portrait sculptures which are then either fired or cast into plaster or bronze. I was privileged to be selected to take part in a Master Class conducted by the Society of Portrait Sculptors in the UK.
Whenever possible, portrait sculptures are modeled from life. When this is not possible, I use photographs, historical documents, and verbal descriptions. My training and wealth of experience have given me with a keen eye for observation and I work with confidence to create sensitive and realistic portrait sculptures expressing the character and vitality of the person. |
